How Can United States Citizens Vote Overseas?Information Session November 14 at Ben Franklin Library |
The United States Embassy in Mexico City is holding a drop-by information session for citizens of the United States on voting abroad, at the Benjamin Franklin Library, on Wednesday, November 14 from 2:00 - 6:00 P.M. The U. S. presidential and state primary season begins in January. Five primaries are currently slated for January, another 20 are scheduled for February, and the rest take place from early March through early October. Registration for the first primary (the District of Columbia) closes December 10, 2007, so it is important to register early. Generally, all U.S. citizens 18 years or older who are or will be residing outside the United States during an election period are eligible to vote absentee in any election for Federal office. This includes primary, run-off, and special elections that occur throughout the year, as well as the general election in November 2008. Some states allow overseas voters to vote in elections for state and local offices, and for state and local referendums. For detailed information on voting requirements in all 50 states, please consult the official U.S. Government website for overseas absentee voting assistance, www.fvap.gov. Overseas registration and voting materials will be available at the Benjamin Franklin Library during and after the event, as well as information on voting resources on the Internet. Representatives from the Embassy will be available to answer questions (in English and in Spanish). Please be prepared to show photo identification (a U.S. passport or other state-issued identification) for admission to the Benjamin Franklin Library, located at Liverpool 31, Col. Juárez, Mexico City. |
