United States Provides Emergency Disaster Relief for Tabasco and Chiapas

Statement by Ambassador Antonio O. Garza

Mexico City, November 5, 2007 - "Our hearts go out to the victims of the devastating floods in the states of Tabasco and Chiapas. As a symbol of our solidarity, the people of the United States will provide $300,000 dollars in emergency assistance to aid disaster relief efforts in these two states. The Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide the majority of this initial assistance through the Red Cross.

"Americans know only too well the horrible impact of such natural disasters on the lives of individuals and communities, and we are anxious to join the international community in providing assistance to our neighbors."
